Duration: 2.5 hours

A relaxed morning spent eating our way through Florence. We’ll walk between each stop with plenty of time to enjoy our tastings, chat, and take in the city along the way.

Price: $115/person

$115 per person, participants must be at least 18 years old.

All scheduled food and drink tastings are included, so all you need to do is show up hungry!

Meeting point: Piazza della Passera

We’ll meet in central Florence before kicking things off the Italian way...with coffee, of course!

Expect approximately 1 km of walking throughout the experience. Comfortable shoes recommended :)

Group size: Max 8

Small group is the name of the game! Keeping the experience to just 8 guests means we can actually get to know each other, chat between stops, and enjoy the morning together without feeling like part of a giant tour group.

Language: 🇺🇸&🇮🇹

The experience is hosted in English. Catalin is a native English speaker and fluent in Italian, making it easy to connect with our local partners along the way!

Dietary safety: Celiac-safe experience

This experience was created by a celiac, for celiacs! Every tasting is selected with gluten-free safety in mind, so you can spend less time worrying about what’s safe and more time enjoying what’s in front of you :)

What You’ll Experience

One of my favorite things about food in Italy is that sometimes the simplest things are the most memorable. A morning coffee and cornetto, really good Tuscan olive oil with bread, a glass of wine passed through one of Florence’s wine windows...these are the little experiences I want you to actually get to enjoy while you’re here, celiac disease and all.

So that’s exactly what we’ll do! Over the course of the morning, we’ll eat our way through some of my favorite Florence food traditions together. We’ll start with Italian coffee and a gluten free cornetto before crossing the Arno for a guided Tuscan olive oil tasting paired with gluten free bread. Then we’ll finish with a glass of wine served through one of Florence’s iconic wine windows.

As we go, I’ll share a little more about what we’re eating and drinking, the traditions behind it all, and plenty of my own insight from years of living (and eating!) as a celiac in Florence. Think less traditional food tour and more spending the morning eating around Florence with a local celiac friend :)

Where You’ll Go

We’ll meet in the “Oltrarno” neighborhood of Florence before making our way across the river, stopping to eat and drink along the way.

Rather than simply taking you to a list of gluten-free restaurants, each stop introduces you to a different piece of everyday Italian and Tuscan food culture. We’ll visit a beloved Florence coffee spot, stop for a proper gluten-free cornetto, taste Tuscan extra virgin olive oil with gluten-free bread, and finish at one of Florence’s famous wine windows.

I’ve chosen each stop because it offers something unique I want you to experience while you’re here, and because together they make for one very delicious morning in Florence!

Created by a Celiac, for Celiacs

I know firsthand how much research goes into eating somewhere new when you have celiac disease, and how quickly the fun of traveling can turn into reading reviews, asking a million questions, and wondering whether or not something is safe.

This experience is your chance to hand that mental load over to me for the morning.

I’ve spent years navigating Florence as a celiac and helping hundreds of gluten-free travelers experience Italy with more confidence. Every stop on this experience has been chosen with that same care, so for a few hours, you can simply show up, eat, drink, and enjoy Florence with people who get it.

Meet Your Celiac Bestie...

Ciao, I'm Catalin! 👋🏼

I’m the celiac behind The Celiac in Italy, founder of Celiacs in Europe, and your host for the morning!

I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2016 and have called Florence home since 2020. What started as sharing my own experience navigating gluten-free life in Italy has grown into years of helping hundreds of fellow celiacs eat and travel their way through the country with a little less stress and a lot more confidence.

I have a degree in Medical Anthropology, where my thesis focused on the gluten-free diet, am a Celiac Disease Foundation Patient Advocate, and work closely with the Italian Celiac Association of Tuscany on resources for international travelers.

But for our morning together, you can forget the résumé. Think of me as your local celiac bestie who already knows where we’re going, what we’re eating, and what questions need to be asked.

I can’t wait to eat our way through Florence together!

FAQ

Is everything on the experience gluten free?

Yes! Every stop is selected with celiac travelers in mind. As a celiac myself, I know that “gluten free” and “celiac safe” aren’t always the same thing, so safety and cross-contact are considered when choosing each stop.

If you have any questions about a particular stop or how food is handled, you’re always welcome to ask!

Can my non-celiac friends or family join?

Absolutely! You definitely don’t need to have celiac disease to join us. Partners, friends, family members and travel companions are all welcome, and everyone will enjoy the same experience together.

What will we eat and drink?

We’ll start with Italian coffee, enjoy a gluten-free cornetto, taste Tuscan extra virgin olive oil paired with gluten-free bread, and finish with a glass of wine from one of Florence’s iconic wine windows.

Exact offerings may occasionally change depending on availability.

Is this enough food to be breakfast or lunch?

Think of this as a generous morning tasting experience rather than a full sit-down meal. You’ll enjoy something at every stop, but we’ll leave you enough room to continue eating your way through Florence afterward!

And don’t worry, I’ll send you off with my personal gluten-free Florence guide so you’ll know exactly where to go next :)

Is this a historical tour of Florence?

No. This experience is all about food!

While we’ll walk through some beautiful parts of Florence along the way, our conversations focus on Italian and Tuscan food culture, what we’re tasting, life in Florence, and of course, navigating it all with celiac disease.

If you’re looking for dates, monuments and Renaissance history, I’ll happily point you toward Florence’s wonderful licensed tour guides. If you want to talk coffee, cornetti, olive oil, wine and celiac life in Italy, you’re in the right place :)

How much walking is involved?

The experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours with relaxed walks between stops. We’ll make our way from the Oltrarno neighborhood across the river, covering approximately 1 kilometer in total.

Florence has plenty of uneven stone streets, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended!

What happens if it rains?

A little rain won’t stop us from eating! The experience runs rain or shine, and many of our tastings take place indoors or under cover. If rain is in the forecast, bring an umbrella and we’ll make the best of it :)

Can you accommodate other dietary restrictions?

This experience is designed specifically around celiac disease and a gluten-free diet. Some additional dietary needs may be possible to accommodate (like a lactose intolerance), while others (like an anaphylactic nut allergy) may not work with our scheduled tastings.

If you have another food allergy or dietary restriction, please contact us before booking so we can let you know whether the experience will be a good fit.

What if I don’t drink alcohol?

No problem! Please just let me know when booking. The cafe attached to the wine window can make a handful of non-alcoholic cocktails or offer any regular sodas (Coca Cola, Sprite, Aranciata) or sparkling lemonade.

What is included in the price?

All scheduled food and drink tastings are included in your ticket, along with approximately 2.5 hours hosted by Catalin.

You’ll also receive Catalin’s personal gluten-free Florence guide after the experience, filled with recommendations to help you keep eating your way through the city.

Any additional food, drinks or purchases you choose to make along the way are not included.

Is tipping expected?

Tipping isn’t required, but it’s always appreciated :) If you loved the experience and would like to leave something extra, you’re very welcome to!
